He has shown her here in the mid 1920's crossing tacks with King George V's venerable cutter Britannia, considered by many to be the greatest yacht of all time. In this situation the crew of Westward is not preparing to tack, indicating she is fetching the mark and therefore may gain the advantage if Britannia does not tack very soon. Despite their disparate designs the American built Westward and the famous British cutter Britannia had a long and exciting rivalry between 1910 and 1938, the end of the "golden age of yachting". This is Mecray's 23rd limited edition print and it is the 5th print in which Westward is the principal subject. All of his earlier prints of Westward are sold out and have appreciated greatly on the secondary market-if one can be found.
