The immense size of the America's Cup yachts from the turn of the century is magnificently portrayed in this limited edition print by John Mecray. The 10th challenge fro the Cup came from Sir Thomas Lipton. This would be the first of five Lipton challengers, all named Shamrock. The yachts measured more than 129 feet with 20 foot fin keels containing over 90 tons of lead enabling them to raise more than 13,000 square feet of sail. Mecray has brought us close to the spectacle of these two glorious yachts as they race downwind with all sail set and a large spectator fleet in close pursuit. As her afterguard studies the situation Columbia's professional skipper, the famed Charley Barr, eases the great yacht ahead and ultimately to a three race victory.
